Used grand pianos are absolutely a good option!

Our store sells used grand pianos all the time. Used grand pianos have a very long life and therefore are a very good option.

The labor factor.

Good grand pianos are very expensive. Most grand pianos that are manufactured off shore in developing countries are not very good, altough the labor is cheaper the quality control is often very bad.

The building cost factor.

The price of good materials nowadays is high and always goes up, therefore there are a lot of low quality parts used in most new pianos.

The end result.

As grand pianos are made with parts and labour only, nothing else, if one of the two is not up to par, the sound will not be good. If both are not up to par, the grand piano with has poor construction and will sound bad.

The climate factor.

Older grand pianos, from before 1970 were often exposed to rough climatic conditions as climate control was non excistent and insulation was not as good as it is now.

The depreciation factor.

Grand pianos sold new are often sold at a fourty percent mark up. After purchasing a new grand piano you will lose around half of the value as the dealer will not buy the grand back as used where they can purchase a new one for only ten percent more.

The wood curing factor.

All older grand pianos have good cured wood. New pianos have more problems than used ones, because wood needs to cure and will expand and contract for some 10-20 years. An older grand piano therefore is ideal as the piano is very stable and usually well built.

The investment factor.

A good used grand piano can be had for around 50% of the price of a new one and will therefore not depreciate like a new grand piano. As a matter of fact, after a little while the piano will start to appreciate in value if take care of.

Old used grand pianos.

Used grand pianos from before 1970 that have been exposed to extreme heat or dryness need rebuilding. This is also the case for used grand pianos made after 1970 that have been exposed to one of these factors.  We at ManilaPianos Inc. rebuilt and will rebuild a lot of Steinway grand pianos.

The warranty factor.

Although used grand pianos are only half the cost of a new grand piano, they are still a lot of money. A long warranty on parts and labor should therefore be expected and requested by you, the customer. This also counts for rebuilt grand pianos.

Good new grand pianos.

There are good new grand pianos out there! New German grand pianos made in Germany, Japanese grand pianos made in Japan and American grand pianos made in America are usually very good.

Good used grand pianos.

German, Japanse and American grand pianos from between 1970 and 2000, made in the country of origin are sometimes very good as well as rebuilt pianos like Steinway & Sons.
